krazeeinjun has embarked upon a new endeavor and has moved on to (literally) greener pastures.

The krazeeinjun blog was started in 2004 after krazeeinjun witnessed a political witch hunt which culminated in the hypocritical, partisan impeachment of a popularly elected President for personal foibles. krazeeinjun knew for goddamn certain that if it had been a Republican president, impeachment would not even have been on the table for discussion. As it was, the coup failed and the target of that impeachment left office with a 70% public approval rating. And the people who impeached that President are still at it today, only they have a new target in their crosshairs. It was that episode which prompted a furious krazeeinjun to start his blog and vent his anger and views, not just about the impeachment, but also about politics and other subjects in general.

Anyhow, after a 1000+ posts on his blog, krazeeinjun has decided to retire the name, which incidentally, was chosen simply because it happened to be his online gaming character name at the time - lol. Time to start afresh.

Here's a link to the new blog - new and improved, but same sense of humor, same caustic view of right wing conservatives and religious nuts, and same interests in music, humor and all things media.

I'm retiring the krazeeinjun name and moving on to new horizons with a new blog and a new name. The content will be similar, with a few new twists.

"The worst e-mails I received about the civility project were from conservatives with just unbelievable language about communists, and some words I wouldn't use in this phone call," DeMoss told The Times.

That was a quote from a conservative, evangelical with close ties to the Republican hiearchy who spent the 2 years since Obama's election as President making a sincere attempt to get our nation's 585 sitting representatives, senators and governors to sign a "civility pledge" which went as follows:

I will be civil in my public discourse and behavior.
I will be respectful of others whether or not I agree with them.
I will stand against incivility when I see it.

He abandoned the project not only because of a general lack of interest, but primarily because of vicious attacks from right wing conservatives.

So what does that tell you?

Along with the story of the black GOP state congressman from Arizona who, after last weekend's horrific carnage in Tucson, resigned this week because of Teabagger threats of violence towards himself, it tells me that these faux patriot gun goons on the far right will not hesitate to threaten physical violence to even their own party members for disagreeing with their warped agenda.

I mean truly -- what more proof is needed to convince you that the right wing in this country are the true radicals and the true un-American, democracy hating thugs?

TUCSON, Ariz. – Summoning the soul of a nation, President Barack Obama on Wednesday implored Americans to honor those slain and injured in the Arizona shootings by becoming better people, telling a polarized citizenry that it is time to talk with each other "in a way that heals, not in a way wounds." Following a hospital bedside visit with Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, the target of the assassination, he said: "She knows we're here, and she knows we love her."

In a memorably dramatic moment, the president said that Giffords, who on Saturday was shot point-blank in the head, had opened her eyes for the first time shortly after his hospital visit. First lady Michelle Obama held hands with Giffords' husband, Mark Kelly, as the news brought soaring cheers throughout the arena.

Speaking at a memorial in Tucson, Obama bluntly conceded that there is no way to know what triggered the shooting rampage that left six people dead, 13 others wounded and the nation shaken. He tried instead to leave indelible memories of the people who were gunned down and to rally the country to use the moment as a reflection on the nation's behavior and compassion.

"I believe we can be better," Obama said to a capacity crowd at the University of Arizona basketball arena — and to countless others watching around the country. "Those who died here, those who saved lives here — they help me believe. We may not be able to stop all evil in the world, but I know that how we treat one another is entirely up to us."

In crafting his comments, Obama clearly sought a turning point in the raw debate that has defined national politics. After offering personal accounts of every person who died, he challenged anyone listening to think of how to honor their memories, and he was not shy about offering direction. He railed against any instinct to point blame or to drift into political pettiness or to latch onto simple explanations that may have no merit.

"At a time when our discourse has become so sharply polarized — at a time when we are far too eager to lay the blame for all that ails the world at the feet of those who think differently than we do — it's important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds," the president said.

That last, italicized quote by President Obama is lofty and noble in nature, and I cannot say enough about the rightness of it, but there's one small, teensy little problem here. It does not take into account the fact that one side in this fractured discourse of ours is defiantly antagonistic towards any meaningful level of reconciliation and mutual understanding and for all intents and purposes have absolutely no inclination to learn from this incident and make positive adjustments in their attitudes and actions.

It's a one-way conversation in dealing with these people. I see no evidence they acknowledge the seriousness of the issue or that they even care.

I'm open to suggestions because by all the available evidence at hand, changing the mindset of these right-wing radicals is nothing short of a Sisyphean task.

Maher gets a couple of things wrong in this interview IMHO, but for the most part he's spot on.

The most devastating observation Maher makes, and it's one I've been making for quite some time myself here on this shitty little blog, is the one where he reviews some of the killer's paranoid views about government and currency and tyranny and in the same sentence draws a straight line to the garbage which Glenn Beck spews all over the airwaves on a daily basis on Fox News and his radio show.

Beck, simply stated, is part and parcel of the problem and until the mainstream media and decent thinking people recognize that fact and demand accountability from him and his handlers at Fox, odds are something like this awful tragedy is destined to occur again.

One of the enduring right-wing obsessions the last two years has been Obama's use of teleprompters. Just do a Google search and countless results. Sure, it's idiotic -- every president and major public figure uses teleprompters. But reality and wingnuttery don't mix, and it's now an article of faith among wingnuts that teleprompters are mock-worthy and a sign of incompetence.

That's why Sarah Palin delivered this gem at a Tea Party conference:

“This is about the people, and it’s bigger than any one king or queen of a tea party, and it’s a lot bigger than any charismatic guy with a teleprompter,” she said.

That was just one of several digs at President Obama.

Turns out Mama Grizzly has a bit of a TELEPROMPTER fetish of her own.

Anyhow, it's just another in a long list of tiresome examples of how low and how dumb the right has pushed the level of public discourse in our society. With all of the very serious problems facing this country these are the kinds of ridiculous non-issues that the far right and the GOP cynically flog ad nauseum in order to distract the American people from their own party's malfeasance and culpability in failing to govern America in a responsible manner.

Here's my very uncomplicated take on the Tucson shootings:

While it's clear that a mentally disturbed individual perpetrated the tragedy in Tucson, reports trickling out describing Jared Loughner's paranoia over government mind control, his obsession with gold and silver as a national currency and the warped views he's expressed about patriotism and constitutional rights, reads like a road map of every single Tea Bagger grievance one can hear right-wing pundits screeching about 24x7 on AM talk radio, Cable TV (Glenn Beck), and conservative internet blogs.

Therefore it most certainly stands to reason that ---

When the conservative Republican leaders and their propaganda outlets in the media and on the internet repeatedly tell their supporters that Obama is a foreign born, Muslim socialist Nazi who wants to allow implementation of Sharia law and turn America into a communist/Muslim bastion, outside observers are going to make the logical connection.

When the conservative Republican leaders and their propaganda outlets in the media and on the internet repeatedly tell their supporters that Obama and liberals want to implement health care "death panels" for the old and infirm and developmentally disabled babies, outside observers are going to make the logical connection.

When the conservative Republican leaders and their propaganda outlets in the media and on the internet repeatedly tell their supporters that Obama and liberals wants to turn over control of the American government to the United Nations and put dissenters into "re-education camps", outside observers are going to make the logical connection.

When the conservative Republican leaders and their propaganda outlets in the media and on the internet repeatedly tell their supporters that Obama is coming to take away their guns, which is followed by record gun/ammunitions sales, outside observers are going to make the logical connection.

When the conservative Republican leaders and their propaganda outlets in the media and on the internet repeatedly feed their supporters unfounded conspiracy theories about government control, which is followed by a spike in hate group and militia membership, outside observers are going to make the logical connection.

Let's face reality here -- the power brokers on the right wanted a movement to help them gain back control of the government (which oddly they claim to despise). They got that movement with the Tea Party. They could have used more honest and inspirational messages to accomplish their political goal, but since they had none, they decided to go another route. Now they have to take responsibility for the mob mentality and other unintended consequences of their paranoid/delusional fear mongering and they are none too happy about it.

Tough fucking shit. Man up and do the responsible, adult thing.

And as for myself - I for one am not going to back down one iota from my assertions that the radical right is not only responsible for the vast majority of the violence-tinged rhetoric that currently permeates our political discourse, they have also been primarily responsible for the majority of the actual physical acts of political violence that have occurred in recent years in this country. That is a fact and not a matter of dispute.

George W. Bush was all over my television this past week, all over the newspapers, and the feelings inspired by his sudden reappearance are almost beyond my capacity to describe. There was the story about his hearty approval of waterboarding. There was the story that had him contemplating dropping Dick Cheney from the administration. There was the story that had him describing himself as a "dissenter" on the Iraq invasion. He did interviews, and excerpts of his new book dribbled out, and it was all too much to endure.

This is the guy, I thought to myself when I saw his face or heard his voice. This is the guy.

This is the guy who took a massive Clinton administration budget surplus and gave it away to his friends at the top of the tax bracket, a move that laid the groundwork for our current economic calamity.

This is the guy who breezed past a pointed warning about Osama bin Laden, terrorism and airplanes on August 6, 2001, because he was on vacation and couldn't be bothered.

This is the guy who parlayed that massive failure into a constant goad of fear to be wielded with impunity against the people he purported to lead. Plastic sheeting and duct tape, anthrax under your pillow, and of course, weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

This is the guy who, not even a month after the Towers came down, looked into a television camera and said, "We need to counter the shockwave of the evildoer by having individual rate cuts accelerated and by thinking about tax rebates."

Oh yes, this is the guy who stood before the American people in January of 2003 and proclaimed that Iraq was in possession of 26,000 liters of anthrax, 38,000 liters of botulinum toxin, 500 tons of sarin, mustard and VX gas, mobile biological weapons labs, uranium from Niger for use in a "robust" nuclear weapons programs, and that Iraq enjoyed connections to al Qaeda that led directly to the attacks of September 11.

This was the guy who presided over the outing of a deep-cover CIA agent after her husband had the temerity to call him a liar in the public prints. That agent was running a network for the purpose of thwarting any person or group that might try to deliver weapons of mass destruction to terrorists.

This is the guy who strutted like a bantam rooster under a banner reading "Mission Accomplished," bragging about the end of a war that was to grind on for seven more years, and grinds on even to this day, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow.

This is the guy who said "Bring it on" and put a target on the backs of tens of thousands of US troops. This is the guy who is personally responsible for the death and injury of hundreds of thousands of innocent human beings. The body count from his administration is breathtaking in size and scope.

This is the guy who allowed the intelligence services of this nation to violate the Constitutional rights of its citizens in a way never seen before.

This is the guy who turned the entire world against America after that same world embraced us so completely after September 11. World leaders could not stand to be in the same room with him, and openly mocked him, thus humiliating us all.

This is the guy who literally fiddled while Hurricane Katrina devoured the city of New Orleans.

This guy actually said he considered dropping Cheney from the administration? It would be comic if it were not so pointedly fraudulent. Cheney ran the government, ran roughshod over every right he found meddlesome, and Bush sat by and let him do it with that same simpering smirk on his face.

This is the guy who set stem cell research back more than a decade because of his overarching fealty to "snowflake babies" over living, breathing, suffering people.

This is the guy who unleashed all the horrors of the torture chamber because the lawyers said it was OK. If the president does it, it's not illegal, right? Nixon came up with that line, but this is the guy who took it farther than it has ever been taken before.

This is the guy, and now he's back on my television again, and it makes me want to eat my own teeth. I endured him for eight long, brutal years, and have often thought since that no matter how bad things get - and they have, indeed, gotten pretty damned bad - I don't have to endure his face or his voice or his abject serial failures anymore.

But now he's back, and it is like returning to a nightmare.

I don't know what this George W. Bush Reputation Rehabilitation Tour will actually accomplish in the end. The same 20% of the country that kept his approval ratings from slipping into single digits - said group now being known as the "Tea Party" - will go out and buy his book. They will lap up his mealy-mouthed pabulum like cats into the cream, and some of our "mainstream" commentators will try to shoehorn the idea that he is missed into the national conversation.

He is not. George W. Bush was, and likely will forever be, the single worst American president in the nation's history. To outstrip his remarkable record of failure, criminality and disgrace, a future president will have to personally cause the Earth to crash into the sun.

All I can do for now is avoid the TV, stay away from the newspapers, and pray to God on High that this small fraction of a man will soon retreat back into the ignominy from which he has emerged. There is no salvaging him, and thanks to him, there may be no salvaging America in his aftermath.

We are all children of this bastard fool now. The least he can do is stay in the shadows where he belongs, while we toil and sweat to repair what he wrought.

Devastatingly spot fucking on. And if your average American wasn't so enamored with style over substance, this prick, along with Cheney, would be sitting in a docket in The Hague right now being grilled by war crimes prosecutors.

The recording, first broadcast on Afghan television and obtained Thursday by The Associated Press, is the latest allegation of fraud in the Sept. 18 parliamentary election and one of the first pieces of evidence that high-level government officials may have tried to fix results.

Sure makes me feel good about that $190 million we're spending every day over there. Money well spent.

One of the biggest consequences of the 1994 Republican Revolution was the wave of investigations the new GOP majority carried out against the White House, culminating in President Clinton's impeachment. Now that the 2010 midterm elections are over, many Democrats and progressive commentators are concerned the same fate will befall President Obama, given the intensity of conservative loathing for his administration.

Oh joy! I'm on pins and needles. I cannot wait for the non-stop, televised hearings investigating how Obama's Muslim, Kenyan parents managed to put a phony advertisement in a Honolulu newspaper in 1961 announcing his birth in a local hospital, then get a white family from Kansas (including a WWII vet) to raise him as their own -- all with the evil, planned foresight of one day ensuring he was elected President of the United States with the sole purpose of imposing Sharia law on all Americans. The excitement of such a pending spectacle is nothing short of titillating.

Hot on the heels of Limpballs declaration the day before yesterday that Americans who cast votes for Democrats hate their country, today, post-election, we have the resident Fox News carnival barker Glenn Beck stating that because California and Nevada voters decided to vote for Democrats that those two states should be excommunicated from the union.

Remember folks -- these statements are coming from people who proclaim the loudest that they represent and are the "real" Americans and that anyone who disagrees with them is not a "real" American.

This is why I fight them. And yesterday's election results notwithstanding, I will continue to fight them. The Limbaughs and the Becks of the world are making a direct assault on the core principles of democracy and if they are successful it becomes just a matter of time before America joins the ignominious ranks of the world's foremost banana Republics.

Democracy: Jack Booted Thug Style

WASHINGTON -- This election season, a man was arrested for hitting a protester at a rally for Washington GOP Senate candidate Dino Rossi, a man stomped on the head of a woman at a campaign event for Kentucky GOP Senate candidate Rand Paul, local police wrestled to the ground a Democratic man at an event for Rep. Eric Cantor (R), Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) received suspicious powder to his office, biker supporters of Florida GOP congressional candidate Allen West harassed a Democratic tracker and Alaska GOP Senate candidate Joe Miller's private security force handcuffed and detained a reporter.

And all that was in just the past two weeks.

Because that is what fascist bullies do. The brown shirts of 1930's Germany demonstrated to the world how very easy it was to whip up hysteria and fear in the masses during uncertain and convulsive economic periods and convince people to put their faith in political leaders who in saner, economically stable times couldn't be elected small town dog catchers.

I see two potentially dangerous scenarios occurring here after the elections are over. First, if the Teabaggers fail to get their more odious candidates (Angle, Paul, O'Donnell, Paladino, Miller, etc.) elected and also fail to wrest control of Congress from the Democrats, watch how quickly the threats of, and actual instances of, political violence escalate. Throw in some good old fashioned southern strategy racism (nigger and illegal beaner voting fraud accusations), and you have the perfect recipe for the makings of another Oklahoma City bombing realistically coming to pass.

The other scenario is that Teabagger candidates win it all and take control of both the Senate and the House. They undoubtedly will be emboldened to storm Congress and attempt to shove every one of their destructively lunatic proposals down the throat of the Democrats. The Democrats, true to form, will cave-in like a Chilean copper mine. If Obama resists with his veto pen, The Teabaggers, now with congressional subpoena power, will then get busily to work manufacturing faux scandals out of thin air in an attempt to put the finishing touches on destroying the popularly elected President and quite likely will even go so far as attempting to begin impeachment proceedings against Obama just because they are extremist fuckheads and they can. And that folks will just be the beginning of the fun.

The Dems do deserve to lose seats - no doubt. And Obama needs to have the fear of the prospect of an even more right-wing Congress put in him -- if anything to nudge him back towards his promise of fighting against the fuckers (big banks, Wall Street crooks, neo-con war mongerers, etc.) who got this country into this mess to begin with, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the hard working, decent and fair-minded people of this country who want to see America succeed in the best interest of the most people possible.

However - putting the Sharron Angles and Rand Pauls of the world in power will accomplish nothing other than destroying any hope of such progress occurring and will undoubtedly accelerate the downward spiral of America into the ugly reality of an oligarchic/plutocratic/theocratic cesspool -- which is also known as "Banana Republicanism."

I am hoping (and hopefully not beyond hope) that the majority of Americans still retain some semblance of sanity and will reject the more extremist candidates and views of the Teabaggers on Nov. 2 and give this country a chance to move forward - even if it's only that that forward movement can only be done one excruciating baby step at a time.

"I would like to be remembered as a guy who had a set of priorities, and was willing to live by those priorities," explained Bush. "In terms of accomplishments, my biggest accomplishment is that I kept the country safe amidst a real danger."

I'm literally left speechless by that underlined quote.

I guess, based on the clear reading of that statement, that this minor, insignificant episode apparently doesn't count:

Around 10 years ago, on the heels of the GOP impeachment witchhunt of Bill Clinton and subsequent rigged election of George W. Bush, I started to turn away from the traditional media and embrace alternative views and sources of news on the internet.

At that time I had no clue what a "blogger" was, nor did I have any inkling that I would one day become one myself. Nevertheless, as I surfed the web in those depressing days, anxiously trying to find political viewpoints other than the full of shit pap I was getting from the mainstream print, television and radio news, I ran across a couple of blogs called Media Whores Online! (MWO) and bartcop.com. MWO went away (mysteriously?) after a couple of years, but bartcop soldiered on - giving voice and empowerment to we liberals who were forsaken and wandering the political media wilderness.

I remember distinctly one of the very first posts I ever read on bartcop was bart's The Myth of the "liberal" media rant. It was sweet music to this forlorn liberal's eyes and ears to see someone express in writing every thing I always knew, but never heard anyone dare say, about the state of the media in America.

I was smitten.

10 years later I still have that bartcop page bookmarked in my various web browsers, even though I have probably gone through a dozen computers during that time. It is a Picassoesque masterpiece, and the fact that Keith Olbermann recently gave kudos to this inimitable bartcop screed on his MSNBC show, underscores the importance of it's content and the relevance that it has to what is going on in America today.

Therefore - as a one-fingered (stated with liberal brotherhood in mind) salute and with much deference I offer this revised, updated version as a symbol to bartcop of this one reader's devotion to the man and his modest, albeit noble, mission statement:

Didn't Americans fight a world war, sacrificing hundreds of thousands of our bravest, against a mega-maniacal tyrant who, under the threat of violence or imprisonment, forced his people to openly worship and recite pledges to himself and his thug government?

Is this where the United States is headed?

This judge is unfit for the office he holds - pure and simple. The U.S. Supreme court ruled in 1943 that it was unconstitutional for school children to be forced to recite the pledge of allegiance or salute the flag. That free speech principle has not been in credible dispute for nearly 70 years.

How much you want to wager that the Teabaggers come down overwhelmingly on the side of the judge in this case? Myopically overlooking of course, their own visceral hatred for the current government and the man and political party leading it and the revulsion they would feel having it loudly pointed out to them that the President is the freely elected leader of the United States of America and their pledge of allegiance to the United States is equal to a pledge of allegiance to the commander in chief? Weather is always an easy topic of conversation. The first eight months of 2010 tied the same period in 1998 for the warmest combined land and ocean surface temperature

To me the global climate change debate can be summed up in an uncomplicated analogy I heard made awhile back.

The analogy is -- if your child who's been suffering terrible migraines is diagnosed with a brain tumor who are you going to trust - the 100 neurosurgeons who are recommending removal of the benign tumor because they are all in agreement that it will kill your child if left untreated --- OR --- your local Fox News watching pharmacist who is telling you to go home, give the suffering child some Children's Tylenol and don't worry about it - because it will go away on it's own?

That's pretty much the scenario when it comes to the debate between the world's most reputable climate scientists and the right-wing armchair "scientists" over the issue of global warming and the question of whether or not human industrial activities are contributing factors.

Her husband and her 7-year-old daughter, Emma, felt sick as well.

"My daughter began having severe nosebleeds," she said. "She'd wake me up at 6 a.m., crying, covered in blood."

Emma was just diagnosed with asthma. She'd never had any respiratory problems. Emma also started breaking out in rashes and having stomach problems.

Bob also suffered from nosebleeds.

"I'm 50 years old and probably haven't had more than three or four nosebleeds in my entire lifetime," Bob said. "All of a sudden I'm getting them three times a week. It was odd."

"I hired someone to do water and air sampling at the home," she said. "The methane level in my daughter's room was at asphyxiation levels. And it was barely lower than what it was outside our home."

She showed the results to her doctor, who told her to leave her home within 48 hours.

"The doctor told me right then," she said, pausing as her voice cracked and a tear streamed across her left cheek, "I had to move immediately. Because if I did not, we would have to spend more time and money on hospitalization, on chemotherapy and morticians for my whole family."

On Saturday, Aug. 28, the Parrs said goodbye to their formerly idyllic home and moved into Bob's office in Denton. They don't know how long they'll have to stay.

"What we are going through is one of the worst things a family could have to go through," she said. "Having to leave this house and explain to my 7-year-old daughter that we've been run out of our house."

Bob and Lisa Parr aren't the sickly type. Bob built his home in 2001. He's enjoyed a long career in stone masonry and raising cattle. His home reflects the rugged, outdoor lifestyle he enjoys. Walls bear the trophies of big-game hunting in the wilds of Alaska. Black bear, mountain lions and elk are mounted on high wooden walls.

"We love it here," Lisa said while sitting in a wooden rocking chair on the back porch and gripping her husband's hand. "We're secluded, private. We just wanted to be left alone, and we've been run out of our house. It's not right. What's even more not right is we thought TCEQ would come out and help us - they would clean up this mess.

"We've had no help. We have someone who is contaminating our air. It has affected our cattle. We've lost pets. We've lost chickens. We're all sick, and we've gotten no help," she said. "I want them to fix it so we can come home. I just want to come home."

At some point you have to stand up and say enough is enough.

This country isn't being ruined by Health Care Reform advocates who believe all Americans deserve to have access to affordable care.

It is not being ruined by those who demand accountability from politicians who employ lies to lead us into unnecessary wars, then pass the bill onto our children and grandchildren.

It is not being ruined by those who believe hard working, play by the rules Americans living on Main Street deserve just as much, if not more, of a fair chance at realizing the American Dream as the reckless, selfish gamblers living on Wall Street do.

And it most definitely is not being ruined by those who believe that strong government oversight of ruthless and greed-oriented corporations does the most good for the most people.

No - America is in fact being slowly ruined by everyone who is against all of those ideals. Just ask the Parr family from that Texas story how big of fans they are now of energy industry deregulation. And this is not an isolated story. This horror is playing itself out in communities all over this country on a daily basis.

An argument could be made that this is not a political issue as it could equally effect citizens of any party. I disagree. The people who are zealously pushing to let big corporations and big industry, such as the energy industry, pursue their rapacious business goals without any government interference or any accountability are primarily Republican and now, as an extension, primarily Teabagger. That is a fact.

So basically it comes down to who do you trust more to ensure your children and grandchildren have better futures and live better lives than you? I've chosen which side I am on -- how about you?

"Something STINKS in Albany," the mailer says. Paladino spokesman Michael Caputo told The Associated Press on Thursday that the mailer is scented with a "landfill" odor.

He says the smell will get worse the longer it is exposed, just like Albany.

These are the "serious" people that the Teabaggers believe are going to lead America out of the crisis of it's current economic implosion and and put us back on the road to super power glory.

However alarming the fiscal situation over here, however nerve-jangling the anticipation of the forthcoming Spending Review and its impact of industrial relations, however wretched the prospect of the low level civil unrest that follows the scapegoating of the deprived by the wealthy, glancing across the Atlantic cannot fail to raise the spirits.

Exactly what is unfolding there remains hard to identify even for those better placed by geography, experience and intellect than your columnist. But even at this remove it is apparent that America is suffering some kind of paranoid psychotic episode.....

On May 13, 2010, about eighty soldiers, stationed at Fort Eustis while attending a training course, were punished for opting out of attending one of these Christian concerts. The headliner at this concert was a Christian rock band called BarlowGirl, a band that describes itself as taking “an aggressive, almost warrior-like stance when it comes to spreading the gospel and serving God.”

Any doubt that this was an evangelical Christian event was cleared up by the Army post’s newspaper, the Fort Eustis Wheel, which ran an article after the concert that began:

“Following the Apostle Paul’s message to the Ephesians in the Bible, Christian rock music’s edgy, all-girl band BarlowGirl brought the armor of God to the warriors and families of Fort Eustis during another installment of the Commanding General’s Spiritual Fitness Concert Series May 13 at Jacobs Theater.”

The father of the three Barlow sisters who make up the band was also quoted in the article, saying, “We really believe that to be a Christian in today’s world, you have to be a warrior, and we feel very blessed and privileged that God has given us the tool to deliver His message and arm His army.”

This is the kind of shit that scares me just as much if not more than anything Bin Laden and his box cutter wielding thugs can do to us.

Alan Simpson's comments came a day after The Associated Press reported that diabetes has become the most frequently compensated ailment among Vietnam veterans, even though decades of research has failed to find more than a possible link between the defoliant Agent Orange and diabetes.

"The irony (is) that the veterans who saved this country are now, in a way, not helping us to save the country in this fiscal mess," said Simpson, an Army veteran who was once chairman of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee.

Umm - no Mr. Simpson. You are dead fucking wrong. It wasn't Vietnam Veterans who got this country into "this fiscal mess" we're in. It was assholes like you, like George W. Bush and Dick Cheney and 12 out of 14 years of Republican rule of Congress and the Executive branch. And I'll even go so far as to hang a good portion of that mantle of blame around the necks of quite a few cowardly Democrats too just to spread the blame around.

Costly, unpaid for tax cuts that went primarily to the wealthiest of Americans at a time that we were embroiled in two ill-advised wars on two separate fronts followed by an economic collapse brought on by the greed and hubris of the Wall Street thugs and bankers is what got us into "this fiscal mess." For you or anyone else to propose that we burden American Veterans in need of medical care to clean up the shit pile mess left behind by politicians, greedy corporations, and Wall Street con men, by cutting the very benefits they fought and bled for, is one of the most sickeningly offensive things I've heard in a very long time and it infuriates me beyond description.

That sincerity in and of itself is not a bad thing and it is not what concerns me.

My problem is with the thought process behind their thinking and the poisonous effect which external influences such as Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, fundamentalist Christianity, etc., have had on that critical process.

Honestly -- how can you watch this video clip and NOT be of the belief that something is terribly, frighteningly, darkly wrong with this picture?:

This affinity for Beck came through very clearly in the focus groups. The only news source that participants said they could trust was Fox. Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, and Sean Hannity were cited as people who “are not afraid to tell it like it is” and support their arguments with solid facts. Beck was undoubtedly the hero in these groups. Participants consider him an “educator” (in contrast to the popular Rush Limbaugh who is an “entertainer”) who teaches people history and puts himself at risk because he exposes the truth. In the words of a woman in Ft. Lauderdale, “I would trust my life in his hands.”

Other comments are just as laudatory:

"He really does his research and he really lays it out to you well; a good professor."

I mean really --- come the fuck on! If, after listening to the following clip, you still are of the belief that Glenn Beck IS NOT full of shit and IS NOT just cynically manipulating your fearful, impressionable little brain for fun and personal profit --- well --- I cannot state that I sympathize with you in any way shape or form if the Beckerheads of the world some day worm their way to power and plunge the whole fucking country into a headlong, empire collapsing free for all:

Glenn Beck has tagged aging rocker/gun nut Ted Nugent to speak at his 8-28 Gathering of Fuckheads. Nugent in recent years has a childish habit of strutting around on stage toting assault rifles and other various extensions of his small penis and threatening to use them on Democratic politicians.

The "Nuge" is the kind of "man" my conservative buddies drool over. In fact, I'd say they probably find themselves forced to stifle the onset of a raging hard on whenever they see and hear old Ted blustering and chest thumping about his guns and his manhood (usually on Fox News - where else?).

But here's something a lot of people don't know about Mr. Nugent. Many years ago, there was a nasty and bloody little war in a far off placed called Vietnam. It just so happens that he-man Ted was of U.S. draft age while that war was in full swing with an endless assembly line of dead American soldier's body bags being shipped back home.

So what did he-man Ted do when he was called up by his local draft board for a pre-draft physical in preparation for serving his country? If you guessed that he-man Ted was so eager to ship out to Vietnam and to gallop forth into battle with his fearless ego and his beloved guns blazing against the evil Viet Cong that he disavowed personal hygiene for a month and showed up at the draft board in clothing that he'd slept, pissed in and shit in for a week, you'd be right on the fucking money. The draft board obviously questioned Mr. Nugents mental status and sent him home. And thus America was denied a soldier hero.

After the draft board incident he-man Nuge demonstrated his courage and his humility and his sorrow at not being able to defend America from the communist hordes by making this statement:

“But if I would have gone over there, I’d have been killed, or I’d have killed all the Hippies in the foxholes. I would have killed everybody.”

Now there's a "real" man's man for ya huh?

Ted recently has been hanging out with some folks who mmmm ... lets say seem to have a wee bit of a problem with dark skinned people, Jews and foreigners.

Anyhow, I think it's fitting that the coward and closet bigot Beck invited a fellow coward and open bigot like Ted Nugent to a rally which takes place on the anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I have a Dream" speech and which the Beckster bills as his rally to "reclaim the civil rights movement."

At one point, a portion of the crowd menacingly surrounded two Egyptian men who were speaking Arabic and were thought to be Muslims.

"Go home," several shouted from the crowd.

"Get out," others shouted.

In fact, the two men – Joseph Nassralla and Karam El Masry — were not Muslims at all. They turned out to be Egyptian Coptic Christians who work for a California-based Christian satellite TV station called "The Way." Both said they had come to protest the mosque.

"I'm a Christian," Nassralla shouted to the crowd, his eyes bulging and beads of sweat rolling down his face.

But it was no use. The protesters had become so angry at what they thought were Muslims that New York City police officers had to rush in and pull Nassralla and El Masry to safety.

"I flew nine hours in an airplane to come here," a frustrated Nassralla said afterward.

Reading that made me think of this scene from the 1943 Henry Fonda move "The Oxbow Incident."

In this scene, Fonda is reading a letter to a group of men who had just found out they had hanged an innocent man in their zeal for vengeful "justice." The words in the letter were the hanged man's last to his wife and infant sons.

I don't believe I am exaggerating in stating that I think it's just a matter of time before Fox and the wing-nuts have innocent blood on their hands.

It truly has boiled down to the very uncomplicated fact that there are a shitload of stupid, knowledge averse, truth be damned people in this country:

Today, Pew put out a poll showing that 18 percent of the American public believes President Obama is a Muslim. That number includes 31 percent of Republicans. Only 34 percent of the adult public says Obama is a Christian, down from 48 percent in 2009. When asked how they learned about Obama’s religion, 60 percent of the respondents cited the media, with tv mentioned the most frequently.

While journalists and pundits on cable news today did acknowledge the “media” have had a role to play, they also seemed to place some of the blame on Obama and his staff, saying that perhaps the President should go to church more frequently and more openly to show the public that he truly is Christian.

I have no doubt that some of my conservative friends count themselves among the 1/3 of Republicans who believe President Obama is a Muslim. I have no doubt that they also share the belief that George W. Bush departed office leaving America in a much stronger economic state than what was left to him by his predecessor. But I gotta tell ya -- I'm going to lay it on the line here. I am sick and goddamn tired of reality denying assholes. And yes, while I do not relish thinking of people who I call friends in that terminology -- it just so happens that it is what it is. Do not waste your breath asking me to apologize for or debate that analysis.

At some point you just have to stand up for the truth, defend it and call on the purveyors of falsehoods to account for their willful ignorance and willingness to believe in and propagate lies.

With that said, I would be derelict if I failed to give a big FUCK YOU! to the media for smugly implying that other people's conscious choice to be ignorant is somehow Obama's fault and stating that he should publicly attend church more often. The fucking nerve of these people. Has the mainstream media looked in the mirror lately? Is it any wonder that a sizable percentage of sane America is of the view that the fourth estate's reputation is lower than a slug's scrotum sac?

When President Barack Obama turned the battle over a planned New York Islamic center into a national debate over religious freedom, he unwittingly allied himself and his party with an ill-planned, long-shot development project described by one of its most prominent allies as “amateur hour.”

The efforts to launch the $100 million Cordoba House (now dubbed Park51) two blocks north of the World Trade Center site have been an uphill battle from the start, and not just because of controversy. And even as the “Ground Zero Mosque” emerges as a hotly debated national symbol, New York government officials and real estate insiders are privately questioning whether the project has much chance of coming to fruition.

The Cordoba Initiative hasn’t yet begun fundraising for its $100 million goal. The group’s latest fundraising report with the state attorney general’s office, from 2008, shows exactly $18,255 — not enough even for a down payment on the half of the site the group has yet to purchase.

The group also lacks even the most basic real estate essentials: no blueprint, architect, lobbyist or engineer — and now operates amid crushing negative publicity. The developers didn't line up advance support for the project from other religious leaders in the city, who could have risen to their defense with the press.

So, since the Republicans and the right have access to this same information, the only reason for them to continue their contemptible hysterics over this obviously manufactured controversy, boils down to nothing more than a cynical, cowardly effort to tap into the misguided fears and ignorance of the Idiocracy crowd to gin up support for their Teabagger candidates in the November elections.

It's crass, it's disgusting, it's deceitful and it's craven. But then that is your modern day conservative movement described to a fucking "T" isn't it?

Some leaders within the Republican Party seem to have fixed on a useful club with which to bludgeon the president and his fellow Democrats — Cordoba House, aka the “Ground Zero” Mosque. Over the weekend, Republican strategist Ed Rollins explained how the party would use the issue in the coming months:

ROLLINS: Intellectually, the president may be right, but this is an emotional issue, and people who lost kids, brothers, sisters, fathers, what have you, do not want that mosque in New York, and it’s going to be a big, big issue for Democrats across this country.

“Face the Nation” Host Bob SCHIEFFER: So you see it as an issue that’s going to continue?

ROLLINS: Absolutely. No question about it. Every candidate — every candidate who’s in the challenge districts are going to be asked, how do you feel about building the mosque on the Ground Zero sites?

This strategy, exploiting still-raw emotion and implicitly demonizing Muslims, threatens to trade short-term political gain for medium-term political harm to the party. And it most certainly will translate into long-term harm for the country at large.

Opposing the construction of a mosque near the Ground Zero site plays into al Qaeda’s narrative that the United States is engaged in a war with Islam, that bin Laden and his tiny band of followers represent something more than a pitiful group of murderers and thugs, and that all American Muslims are an incipient Fifth Column that must be either converted to Christianity or driven out of the country, else they will undermine American society from within.

Since it appears there are no longer any thinking adults in the GOP who will do the right thing and stand up to the neanderthals who have hijacked their party, it is truly becoming imperative for the remaining sane Americans to step up and start speaking out against this lunacy. Otherwise, it's just a matter of time before history repeats itself in this manner:

Keith Olbermann weighs in with a dose of sober sanity on the right-wing manufactured controversy known as the "ground zero mosque".

With every passing day, I find it increasingly difficult to think of or refer to these folks on the far right as "my fellow Americans." Their zeal for using emotional wedge issues like this to divide Americans for purely political and ideological gain is nothing short of cowardly and disgusting - and frankly - un-American. I mean -- think about it -- this country is in serious economic trouble right now. Devastatingly high unemployment, people losing jobs, homes, life savings - lives ruined - and no relief for the foreseeable future. And all the right can think of doing is playing cultural warrior games. And though it is understandable considering the fact that they have no ideas, no vision whatsoever for how to deal with this country's truly serious issues, it does not make it any less insidious.

The America I grew up in and the history I was taught stressed the importance and magnitude with which a little document called the U.S. Constitution has had in the formation of our Democratic Republic and the critical role it has played in the freedom that ALL AMERICANS benefit from.

Watching how the right has been cynically manipulating this issue though, I'm beginning to get the distinct impression that the right wingers view the U.S. Constitution as being a great deal less sacrosanct than their desire to regain political power and "stick" it to the Democrats. In other words, just like the phony flag lapel pin controversy, and the Obama birth certificate crap, the right wing really doesn't give a rat's ass about Democracy -- it's a throwaway word to them -- a weapon so to speak, to be used only as a political prop whenever the need arises to shove it up their political opponent's ass.

Anyhow - good for Olbermann for pointing out the obvious and while I harbor no hope whatsoever that it will sway the right wing from their path of destructive hate, at least people are starting to push back in the mainstream media and questioning the motives of the wingnuts in general. It's a necessary start.

In Brief: The "Ground Zero Mosque" and Victim Worship:

Here's one of the stupidest things said so far about the whole big ball of stupid that is the "controversy" over the Muslim community center being built two blocks from the sight of the former World Trade Center: "Everything Bloomberg and Barack Obama say about this sounds right. But if the only constituency that matters here - the ones left behind by the victims of Sept. 11 - think they're wrong, they are." That bit of solipsism masked as empathy is from New York Daily News writer Mike Lupica.

Really? How much of the architecture of Lower Manhattan needs to meet with the approval of the families of 9/11 victims? Did they vote? Because of fears of offending their apparently delicate sensibilities, in 2005, the International Freedom Center was booted from the plans for construction at Ground Zero because it might not be solely devoted to fetishizing the attacks of 2001. Or, in other words, because it might have too much freedom. The fear that mean art might leap off the page and attack 9/11 survivors also got the Drawing Center to withdraw from the site's proposed Frank Gehry-designed art center, which has still not gotten off the ground.

Enough. Truly, enough. This is written with utter sympathy for people who lost loved ones or were hurt or made ill by the attack on 9/11. But it is with complete disdain and a "fuck you" to those who exploit their pain in order to spread hatred (and that includes some of the victims themselves). There is something appalling and sick about watching preening bags of fuck prance around on Fox "news" and use dead people as shields so they can say bad things about Democrats, liberals, and/or Muslims.

And, by the way, have you ever spent time in the blocks around Ground Zero? It ain't some pristine site of our American revirgination. It's a filthy downtown of a city, like every filthy city downtown. The streets are dirty; there's homeless people all around; there's discount stores, fast food joints, and other crap places in between the decent buildings and public art. Some of the people from outside the city who want to talk about "honoring the dead" or some such shit probably buy the crap Twin Tower souvenirs from the Middle Easterners selling them at grubby tables across the street, between Ground Zero and the Trinity Church, or they get street meat from Halal carts. Fuck, before the 9/11 attacks, it was a fucking wasteland at night and on the weekends down there. The Cordoba House? That's on a block that no one walks down unless they're specifically looking for a place there, not because it's dangerous, but because it's just another goddamned city block with nothing special about it.

So, really, truly, take your sudden belief in the glowing sanctity of the ground that holds the construction site of an office building that will be filled with Wall Streeters dicking over Middle America and shove it up your opportunistic and hateful asses.

My proof that "reality has a well known liberal bias"

I got into an ill-advised political "discussion" last weekend with a couple of acquaintances. I say "ill-advised" for a couple of reasons. One is that I'd had a snootful of gin & tonics at the time - and probably was not at my peak ability to coherently state my positions. And two - I'd violated one of my own cardinal rules of avoiding political discussions with people who are incapable of looking past the ends of their Obama hating noses to see the forest for the trees.

Both of the individuals I'm speaking of are small business owners. Both seem to be of the view that the evil Obama is out to destroy their small businesses. I'm not going to get into and outline the efforts the Obama administration has made to assist small business owners since winning the White House, because the information is out there, publicly available, and if these individuals were truly interested in knowing the facts, all they have to do is make the effort to seek out that information for themselves.

But here's what really kills me. The GOP had control of Congress from 1994 thru 2006 and control of all 3 branches of government from 2000-2006. During the time that the GOP had unbridled control of all 3 branches of government for the first 6 years of Bush's regime, they pretty much steamrolled the hapless Democrats with every right-wing, big corporation/wealthy elitist loving, wet dream piece of legislation they could gleefully shove down the Democrat's throats.

The Democrats wrested control of Congress away from Republicans in 2006 due mostly to Americans pretty much coming to the long overdue conclusion that the GOP was incompetent at governing and their governing policies were doing more harm to the country than good. So what does one of my acquaintances say when informed of this? I'll paraphrase -- "aha!" "you see - the Democrats get control and the country goes belly up!" Sigh . . . I mean - how do you deal with folks who create their own alternate universe of reality like that? They conveniently omit any role the GOP may have played in setting the stage for economic catastrophe, ignore the fact that even after the Dems won Congress in 2006, the GOP stymied most of their efforts to legislate anything, and finally when it was too late and the economic train was plunging off the blown up bridge, they put all of the blame on the guy who's only "crime" was winning the Presidency of the United States and having a full blown national crisis plopped in his lap.

I know my acquaintances don't give a shit about my views on this subject, and I have no problem with that. Besides - I'm just some lowly blogger with a big mouth who happens to get his news and information from sources other than Fox News and hate radio (in other words - the evil librul media). But maybe they'll listen to former Ronald Reagan (their hero) budget director David Stockman who unequivocally states that indeed - it was the GOP who destroyed the U.S. economy:

If he himself is now publicly stating that Reagan's policies and subsequent GOP economic policies have been the primary cause of economic ruin to America -- who else do my acquaintances and the rest of the Republicans have to turn to now? Or is it just too goddamn easy to blame it all on the evil, liberal, terrorist loving, socialist nazi, Kenyan Muslim named Obama?

The worst U.S. recession since the 1930s was even deeper than previously estimated, reflecting bigger slumps in consumer spending and housing, according to revised figures.

The world’s largest economy shrank 4.1 percent from the fourth quarter of 2007 to the second quarter of 2009, compared with the 3.7 percent drop previously on the books, the Commerce Department said today in Washington. Household spending fell 1.2 percent in 2009, twice as much as previously projected and the biggest decline since 1942.

Statistics do not lie. This horrendous economic downturn began under the Bush administration, accelerated through 2008 and peaked a few months after Obama took office.

I wish my conservative friends would just stop deceiving themselves and for once just accept the truth and facts as they are. However, since it's become painfully clear that the conservative movement lives in and operates in an entirely phantasmagorical alternate universe, I will not be holding my breath for that miracle to occur.

Dramatic increases in infant mortality, cancer and leukaemia in the Iraqi city of Fallujah, which was bombarded by US Marines in 2004, exceed those reported by survivors of the atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, according to a new study. [...]

Dr Chris Busby, a visiting professor at the University of Ulster and one of the authors of the survey of 4,800 individuals in Fallujah, said it is difficult to pin down the exact cause of the cancers and birth defects. He added that “to produce an effect like this, some very major mutagenic exposure must have occurred in 2004 when the attacks happened.”

While some of the details of this study remain to be vetted and shored up, the fact remains that prior to the U.S. onslaught of Fallujah, no such anomaly existed.

When I sit and reflect upon what has occurred in this country in the past 3 decades, and specifically as it relates to the culmination of our present economic crisis, I've truly come to believe that Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda must be absolutely beside themselves with glee at the current misery being experienced by the American people. Not glee over their own vile terrorist actions, but glee at seeing America consume itself with it's own unbridled greed, hubris and ignorance.

No doubt my detractors will call me a communist, socialist, America hating traitor for stating this but quite frankly I'm not certain that the Wall Street hoodlums and the banksters have not done more damage to America and it's democratic republic than the assholes who flew the planes into the World Trade Center towers nearly a 8 years ago.

I think the ruling elites have played their poker hand quite brilliantly. They have liberals and conservatives at each other's throats, the mainstream media behaving like fair weather referees in the manufactured conflict, and while that theater is playing itself out, the plunderers are skulking out the back door with the national treasure stuffed in their already overflowing pockets.

Apparently right wing Republicans are of the belief that the "govern" part of the word governing refers solely to the act of creating fake scandals, then using taxpayer money to fund endless investigations of which 99.9% of the time predictably fizzle into historical oblivion.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) has a plan for what the Republicans should do if they win control of the House of Representatives: Spend all their time investigating the Obama administration.

"Oh, I think that's all we should do," Bachmann told the Three Fingers of Politics website. "I think that all we should do is issue subpoenas and have one hearing after another, and expose all the nonsense that has gone on. And it's very important when we come back that we have constitutional conservative leadership, because the American people's patience is about this big. So we have to make sure that we do what the people want us to do."

If Americans put these incompetent assklowns back in power in November then this country deserves whatever economic pain and misery that is likely to result in the aftermath.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – KSL Radio announced that they will no longer air Sean Hannity’s syndicated national talk show.

The last KSL broadcast of the Sean Hannity show will air on October 1, 2010. The announcement comes after speculation that Hannity’s on-air style was not in line with Deseret Media Company’s mission statement that calls for civility and other ethical stances.

People are ever so slowly coming to the conclusion that the words civility and ethical are nothing more than throw-away words to right wing conservatives.

There's hope for America yet.

Gene Lyons makes a valiant attempt to understand and explain the cancerous paradox of "zombie lies."

By the time President Obama was inaugurated last January, the economy was bleeding 750,000 lost jobs a month; the Congressional Budget Office had already projected the FY 2009 deficit at $1.3 trillion -- a budget written by the Bush White House. After taking over in 2001 with a healthy budget surplus and some economists warning against paying down the debt too fast, Bush doubled it to over $10 trillion in eight short years.

Yet there was Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, on CNN, allowing as how he's "waiting for this administration to take responsibility." He accused the Obama administration of "tripling" the annual deficit, as brazen a falsehood as can be imagined. Is it even necessary to say that neither Cornyn nor any Republican who twiddled his thumbs throughout Bush's two terms has condescended to explain what exact combination of revenue increases and spending cuts is needed to reduce the deficit short term?

Alas it's absolutely necessary. According to the Center on Budget and Priorities, "(T)he fact remains: Together with the economic downturn, the Bush tax cuts and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq explain virtually the entire deficit over the next 10 years."

New spending by the Obama administration -- mainly the economic stimulus and auto industry rescue -- is dwarfed by Bush's spending on the Iraq and Afghan wars and the unfunded Medicare prescription drug benefit. If Democratic attempts to stimulate the economy have proven less than adequate, that's because they've both been hostage to GOP obstructionism and restrained by the fiscal straitjacket Republicans left behind.

But a lot of voters simply don't know it. Indeed, many people actively refuse to understand anything important about what the federal budget consists of or the role of government in modern economies. Millions remain captive to what Paul Krugman calls "zombie lies": long disproven canards like the one that says cutting tax rates invariably leads to higher revenues. Because it's so counterintuitive, parroting it makes Rush Limbaugh fans feel like intellectuals.

In the struggle to win over Kandahar civilians and weaken the Taliban, U.S. commanders have ordered NATO troops to join with civilian development experts to create a competent government where none exists. But the effort has so far seen few concrete results.

Development projects have been modest and plagued by insurgent attacks or threats against Afghan workers. Residents complain of shakedowns by Afghan police. Many U.S. soldiers say they don't fully trust their nominal allies in the Afghan police or army, who are scheduled to take responsibility for security by next summer.

What little government exists in Kandahar is overshadowed by a cabal of Afghan hustlers who have milked connections to high government officials to earn illicit fortunes. Last month, a congressional subcommittee said Afghan warlords have siphoned off millions of dollars through protection rackets involving security escorts for North Atlantic Treaty Organization convoys.

Corruption is another corrosive problem. The national government of President Hamid Karzai is riddled with officials who have enriched themselves through bribes, government contracts and the lucrative drug trade.

At Camp Nathan Smith in downtown Kandahar, the secured offices of U.S. development officials feature a chart of the Karzai family tree. Laid out like a prosecutor's crime family operation, the chart documents the expansive business empire of Karzai's extended family. Western officials have accused Karzai's brother, Ahmed Wali Karzai, of parlaying family connections into an enterprise that controls trucking, security, drug and protection operations.

If that isn't the classic definition of the word quagmire -- I don't know what is.

On Fox News, Bill Kristol stated that crime along the Arizona border "may be down" but that "a lot of the crime has migrated up to Phoenix." In fact, crime rates in Phoenix and the surrounding metro area have dropped over the past decade and reportedly "plunged" in 2009.

FBI statistics put the lie to the claims:

FBI data shows crime rates in Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale Metropolitan Statistical Area have dropped. According to the FBI's "Crime in the United States" annual reports, the violent crime rate in the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale metro area has declined from 560 per 100,000 population in 2000 to 490 in 2007 and 455 in 2008 (a 19 percent decrease from 2000 to 2008). The property crime rate has also declined from 5,644 per 100,000 population in 2000 to 4,653 in 2007 and 4,256 in 2008 (a 25 percent decrease from 2000 to 2008). The FBI's 2009 crime statistics for the Phoenix metro area have not yet been released.

Phoenix Police Department: Total violent and property crimes declined 44 percent from 2002-2009. According to a Phoenix Police Department report, the total violent and property rates in Phoenix declined 44 percent from 2002 to 2009. During that period, the violent crime rate fell 30 percent and the property crime rate fell 46 percent.

WSJ: Violent crime in Phoenix "plunged" in 2009. The Wall Street Journal reported on May 25 that according to preliminary FBI figures, "[t]he incidence of violent crimes such as murder, rape and aggravated assault ... plunged 16.6% in Phoenix, despite a perception of rising crime that has fueled an immigration backlash." The Journal further reported that "Arizona's major cities all registered declines."

... They deny that bigotry or rejections of Obama because of his race are part of the movement’s appeal ...

I have to call major league bullshit on that.

From the years 2000 thru 2008:

The national debt skyrocketed under Bush/Cheney from $5.7 trillion to nearly $11 trillion. A $230 billion tax surplus left by Bill Clinton was subsequently squandered in tax cuts doled out to the super wealthy.

Under the guise of the patriotastic sounding USA Patriot Act, Bush/Cheney monitored American's telephone and e-mail communications en masse. Dissenters of the Iraq invasion were ominously warned by the Bush administration to "watch what you say, watch what you do." The USA Patriot Act, as predicted by many, was abused by Bush/Cheney for purposes other than terror prevention.

Protesters at Bush/Cheney "public" events were herded into "free speech zones" - typically a fenced in area surrounded by law enforcement, blocks away from the event and therefore out of eye and ear shot of Bush/Cheney and the mainstream media.

9/11 occurred on Bush/Cheney's watch - 9 months into their first term. One month prior to 9/11 Bush/Cheney were given a PDB (Presidential Daily Brief) titled "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the US" but failed to act on it.

In reaction to 9/11, Bush/Cheney embroiled America in two wars on two separate battle fronts and then stated that it was all part of the never ending "war on terror". To date, those wars have cost America $1+ trillion dollars, thousands of U.S. soldiers lives, hundreds of thousands of civilian lives and tarnished America's image abroad.

Under Bush/Cheney, a hands off, business can do no wrong approach to regulation led to the corruption and eventual meltdown of the financial services and banking industries - culminating in the worst economic downturn in America since the Great Depression and roiling economies around the world. The Bush/Cheney solution was the $700 billion TARP bailout - in other words - more taxpayer money given hand over fist to the riverboat gamblers who caused the crisis to begin with.

Under Bush/Cheney the world watched as a major American city, New Orleans, drowned. They have yet to recover.

Under Bush/Cheney an interrogation practice called "waterboarding" - which prior to the Bush/Cheney era had always been referred to as torture and criminal - became acceptable and routine behavior by the world's, supposedly, most respected democracy.

Now -- I drove by a local Tea Party gathering a few months ago. I saw a lot of derisive and critical signs and t-shirts - many quite colorful and inventive I admit. Funny thing though -- not a single sign or t-shirt referenced George W. Bush or Dick Cheney. They were almost exclusively anti-Obama and calling him illegitimate, questioning his birth place, calling him a muslim lover, an anti-American Kenyan, a Nazi, a communist, a socialist, etc. Many of the messages were most definitely racist in nature. Oh and, not surprisingly, I do not recall seeing any minorities amongst that crowd.

To put it bluntly - the revisionary claims by the Tea Party that their movement and/or philosophy is solely against over-reaching government power, concerned about federal debt and is not about race, flies directly in the face of the video and audio evidenced gathered to date as to what they truly appear to stand for publicly.

Therefore - as far as their laughable attempts to soft-pedal their movement philosophy goes, such as in this USA Today article, --- my pithy response quite simply is: BULL FUCKING SHIT!

If you are of the belief that the illegal immigration problem in Arizona has evolved to the point of beheadings, or even rampant, uncontrollable extortion, kidnapping, drug mules and crime by mexican day laborers --- all I can tell you is your fucking brain has rotted from the inside out from watching way too much Fox News. Please save your soul and your life now by turning off Rupert Murdoch's "news" channel for 3 year olds. You can thank me for that advice later once you've recovered your sanity.

And one last thing -- something you will not hear Jan Brewer talk about is a recent Wall Street Journal article that analyzed recent year's FBI violent crime statistics and guess what --- in Brewer's beloved Arizona there has a been a steady decrease in all major categories of crime the past several years.

Fed Made Taxpayers Unwitting Junk-Bond Buyers

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke and then-New York Fed President Timothy Geithner told senators on April 3, 2008, that the tens of billions of dollars in “assets” the government agreed to purchase in the rescue of Bear Stearns Cos. were “investment-grade.” They didn’t share everything the Fed knew about the money.

The so-called assets included collateralized debt obligations and mortgage-backed bonds with names like HG-Coll Ltd. 2007-1A that were so distressed, more than $40 million already had been reduced to less than investment-grade by the time the central bankers testified. The government also became the owner of $16 billion of credit-default swaps, and taxpayers wound up guaranteeing high-yield, high-risk junk bonds.

Basically what that last sentence is stating is that Joe and Mary Taxpayer unwittingly became the proud owners of a worthless, putrid pile of financial shit.

Lovely. Gives new meaning to the term "rape and pillage" -- except in this case it was a small group of greedy Americans raping and pillaging their fellow Americans.

And this in turn is what kills me about the Teabaggers.

All of their hateful wrath and vitriol which they blindly aim at immigrants, minorities, liberals, dirty fucking hippies, etc. .. should in reality, be directed at the people who are PRIMARILY responsible for the financial meltdown and their economic misery -- namely the Wall Street grifters who gambled away the nation's savings account and then went crawling hat in hand to the Fed (under Bush at the time) and requested even more money to play with at their financial system black jack tables. The Fed, of course, populated by Wall Street con men themselves, promptly and unquestioningly handed over the people's money to the bankster card sharks and their mini-army of white collar hoodlum flunkies. And a nation's fate was sealed.

So yeah -- call me a cynic if I am of the unrepentant view that the Tea Party movement/philosophy doesn't amount to much more than a load of willfully ignorant, misinformed, hate fueled, John Bircher bullshit -- and with more than just of tinge of old school racism embedded within.

And while I am yet convinced that Obama is not a full-fledged member of this crime cartel that plundered America by virtue of the fact he kept alot of the usual suspects in his administration from the Bush regime, I believe he is at least making an honest effort (as ineffective as it is) to keep the beast on a short leash.

Frankly though, if it were up to me, the only thing I'd like to see around anyone's necks would be some nooses -- preferably hanging from a hastily erected, wooden platform on the steps of The New York Stock Exchange.
